A Simple Transformation of a Found Item

Muldoon and I were walking along the beach this evening. The hundreds of horseshoe crabs who were furiously mating last week were tucked into the sand, laying their eggs today. We found a very small horseshoe crab shell- picked clean, but aesthetically intact. I brought it home and boiled it with dishwasher detergent (there is no bleach in this house, apparently), which got most of the smell out.

I poked little holes in the interior of the shell and strung fishing line through so it would hang on the wall. Then, I painted the eyes gold and painted a small heart on the lower right quadrant with red glitter.

Horseshoe crabs are protected in New Jersey

Horseshoe crabs have blue, copper-based blood.
