The 9th Thing

May 11, 2010 § Leave a comment

The 9th thing that happened that day was the phone ringing at the exact moment she was reading her horoscope which said she could expect a phone call from a stranger stranger than most strangers found sleeping on the subway. The stranger was, in fact, calling from the subway which was a miracle in itself as the subway had no service.

The stranger told her that horoscopes are stupid little lies from the universe for the hopeless to desperately cling to. She stayed silent for a moment and then let the stranger know she was coming over. She searched 5 subway lines before she found the stranger singing softly to no one in the corner by the emergency breaking systems.

She sat down across from the stranger and started softly singing along, finding that the words she didn’t know just somehow came to her lips.
