Sunday Morning Diner

The melancholy atmosphere mixes with the smell of bacon and maple syrup. Forks grow heavy under the weight of impending separation. Fathers eat in silence, blank expressions drawn on tired faces. The children pick at their pancakes and bicker softly, their overnight backpacks slumped under the table.
